Galileo-Innovation Camps for Kids
GALILEO INNOVATION CAMPS FOR KIDS: VISIONARIES WANTEDThe world needs innovators. That’s where Galileo comes in. Drawing from the innovation process developed by the Stanford school, we run an evolving series of imagination-sparking programs for kids from pre-K through 8th grade: Camp Galileo (pre-K – 5th graders), Galileo Summer Quest (5th – 8th graders). This summer we have camps at Chabot Elementary in Oakland, St. Philip Neri School in Alameda, and Jefferson Elementary in Berkeley. We will be offering several courses for our Middle School students. They will have the opportunity to build go karts, design fashion lines, create video games, Mod Minecraft, become Chefs, paint in an electric painting studio, and/or work with 3D printers.Whatever the age group your students fall into, they will explore what it means to be an innovator. You will have the privilege each week to see the sparks of innovation come to life as we celebrate your camper’s work. In our mission to teach Innovation Education, we hope kids will walk away, with not only a new technical tool kit, but skills that will help them take on the world!http://www.galileo-camps.com/ |

Play-Well camps help kids learn through play. When kids are at play, they explore the world. When kids create, they express themselves. And when kids build, they solve problems. These hands-on camps are engineer-designed to help kids build on the math and science skills learned in school, all through the medium of LEGO®. We bring over 20,000 pieces and parts so that kids can explore the endless creative possibilities of this awesome building system, with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Come play well with us!Weekly half-day camps for ages 5-13 typically run from 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm and range between $175-$299, depending on curriculum and location (full-day camps available at some locations). We run programs at Recreation Departments, YMCAs, JCCs, Summer Schools, and Learning Centers in Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, Piedmont, Alameda, San Leandro, Hayward, and beyond from June 13th through August 19th.If you can’t find what you’re looking for on our website, please reach out directly to our Alameda County Area Manager at Lauren@play-well.org.**We also run after school enrichment, in-class workshops, and parties throughout the rest of the year!**www.play-well.org |
Project Ember
At Project Ember, our goal is to empower kids to design and build concrete solutions to abstract problems. Our prompts merge objective engineering challenges with artistic freedom in a process we call World Building. We’re in awe of the worlds kids dream up, so we don’t use blueprints or prefabricated kits to solve our design challenges – we use kids’ authentic creativity.Camp always starts with a surprise prompt like “safely lift a teammate off the ground.” Our teams use their imaginations to figure out how (levers? pulleys? ropes?) and why (superhero? zero gravity simulation? human-sized arcade claw machine?). We also use power tools, a stockpile of construction grade materials, and collaboration. Though the design itself is up in the air, one thing’s for certain: we build big and bold. Kids will always be able to get in, climb on, or operate their creations. Our weekly day camp runs Monday-Friday from 9:30am – 3:30pm and is open to kids age 7-13. Join us at one of our two locations, in Berkeley at Black Pine Circle or in Oakland at Pacific Boychoir Academy. Find the dates that work for you family on our website. Extended care, scholarships, and discounts are available.Summer ends with one week of overnight camp for teenagers. Join us for an intimate retreat in the redwoods. Challenges will get more complex, and we’ll focus on translating maker skills into leadership skills, leaving room to explore our natural environment.See a video about Project Ember at: https://youtu.be/a4eLHYYojW4 and visit our web site at:ProjectEmber.org |
